"Upgrading to FLOOD-GARD® bearing isolators allowed us to make cost savings of £82k!"
Manufacturer and distributor of chlorine, caustic soda and caustic potash chemicals had a gearbox on a mixer that was leaking oil. A standard rubber oil seal was being used and required to be replaced at regular intervals. Yet, it didn't succeed at completely sealing the leak. A competitor proposed the use of their bearing isolators which also failed.
3 mixer units within the gearbox shaft in one of the plants developed a groove which led to a leak at the seal location. The previously mentioned seal was changed during the planned downtime, however, it started leaking momentarily. The leak was so substantial that it required a daily oil top-up by the maintenance team.
Challenged with offering a solution that could improve the reliability, we were able to successfully implement FLOOD-GARD® bearing isolators into the mixer unit gearboxes. There was no need to repair or replace the shaft thanks to FLOOD-GARD®'s incorporated trusted bearing isolator technology which has been developed for flooded applications, allowing the seal to be installed leak-free. Following the upgrade to FLOOD-GARD® in all 3 units, the customer now enjoys cost savings of £82k.
