PS-SEAL® Non-Standard lip configurations

Dynamic seals in conventional sizes with various lip configurations

The Standard PS-SEAL® is a high-performance PTFE-based seal that serves a broad scope of demands. However, in some installations, the Standard PS-SEAL® may not have the desired effect. Therefore, to compensate Garlock developed the PS-SEAL® Non-Standard.

The PS-SEAL® Non-Standard makes a variety of adaptations possible including installation areas that demand specific lip and layout arrangements.

The benefits of the PS-SEAL® Non-Standard are its:

  • Dependable sealing of rotating shafts at high peripheral speeds
  • Radical temperature ranges (-90°C and +260°C)
  • High-pressure resistance
  • Excellent sealing in demanding installations
  • Ability to handle P x V (Pressure x Velocity) of 45bar and m/s for greased installations and 15bar. m/s for dry running

In addition, the PS-SEAL® Non-Standard fits within the small application spaces of standard shaft seals whilst also providing a broad range of configuration possibilities. This includes lips for media separation, a design with back-to-back lips, several lips in a row, and many more. A particularly popular configuration is the design with a reverse lip, which is greatly valued by the pharmaceutical and food and beverage industries.

Reverse lip

A single lip pointing out of the housing, towards the media:

This design is so successful because the “dead” space is decreased by nearly 80%, which has an exceptionally beneficial impact on cleaning and substantially minimises potential contamination.

Single lip with dust lip

The seal lip, as standard, sits in the housing and is completed with a dust lip directed towards the dry side:

The PS-SEAL® Non-Standard can be fitted with a dust lip if the working media is contaminated with dust. The dry-running suitability of PS-SEAL® lips is particularly used, consequently increasing the sealing performance.

Back-to-back

Two lips seal equally on both sides:

It is possible to safely separate two media with just one seal. Where otherwise two shaft seals would have been used, this task is carried out by PS-SEAL® Non-Standard in the back-to-back design.

Tandem

Two seal lips facing towards the media.

The PS-SEAL® Non-Standard Tandem is a good choice in cases where longer durability or even greater installation safety is desired. Two seal lips are available instead of one for the smallest installation width.

On top of all that, the specific types of PS-SEAL® Non-Standard can be integrated with one another. This consequently provides each user with the best possible range of sealing solutions.

If the comprehensive range of PS-SEAL® Standard and PS-SEAL® Non-Standard does not constitute the desired solution, additional alternatives are possible with PS-SEAL® Special. With PS-SEAL® Special virtually all desired requirements can be achieved.
