Trade Names for Materials

Using trade names for seal materials is very popular in our division in order to define common materials. The chemical names can be quite difficult to remember and quote. Manufacturers and trade names occur for the chemical names containing the most typical compounds. The material’s chemical name is permanently retained (example: Tetrafluoroethylene-Propylene Copolymer). It is not, however, so often used compared to the trade name (example: Aflas®). When the manufacturer holds a significant share in the market, the chemical name is often substituted by that of the prevailing brand. This is why it is important to know the trade names. We should not, however, neglect the chemical names and corresponding symbols.
