ptfe o rings

Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) rings are circular and closed, featuring an annular cross-section. Similar to elastomer O Rings, their dimensions are defined by the inside diameter (ID) and cord diameter (W). Unlike molded rings, PTFE O Rings are machined, allowing for production in various sizes.

Advantages of PTFE O Rings

  • Excellent chemical resistance, compatible with the majority of liquids and chemicals, except for liquid alkaline metals and certain fluorine compounds.
  • Suitable for contact with foodstuffs, pharmaceuticals, and medicinal products.
  • Physiologically safe, and can be sterilised.
  • Low friction, no adhesion.
  • Wide temperature range from approx. – 200°C to + 260°C.
  • Available for all diameters up to approx. 1,900 mm.

Application by Industry

For some industrial applications, PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene) is the go-to sealing solution. These include:

Material

Standard material: Virgin, unfilled PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene)

PTFE, a partially crystalline thermoplastic, boasts exceptional chemical and thermal resistance. It stands out as the most chemically resistant plastic, suitable for a wide range of applications. While it exhibits slight limitations with molten alkaline metals, elementary fluorine, and certain halogen materials, PTFE remains unchanged when exposed to aging, light, and ozone.

With a water absorption rate of less than 0.01%, PTFE O Rings are ideal for applications where traditional elastomer O Rings fall short in chemical and thermal resilience. Commonly found in the chemical industry, food processing, pharmaceuticals, and medical technology, Teflon™ O Rings serve as static seals, securing connections like flanges and covers.
