PTFE O Rings
The UK’s largest independent stockist and distributor of PTFE O Rings
M Barnwell Services’ range of PTFE O Rings are an essential component for applications involving friction, temperature, and chemicals. Standard sizes are available from stock and special / custom-cut sizes are obtainable with industry-leading lead times.
For over 50 years we have supplied OEMs, end-users, and Aftermarket suppliers with PTFE O Rings which are proven to help resist corrosion, extend shelf-life, and function in a wide range of temperatures. Together with our manufacturing partners we can also provide full batch traceability throughout the manufacturing process and issue any conformance/certification when available.

Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) rings are circular and closed, featuring an annular cross-section. Similar to elastomer O Rings, their dimensions are defined by the inside diameter (ID) and cord diameter (W). Unlike molded rings, PTFE O Rings are machined, allowing for production in various sizes.
Advantages of PTFE O Rings
- Excellent chemical resistance, compatible with the majority of liquids and chemicals, except for liquid alkaline metals and certain fluorine compounds.
- Suitable for contact with foodstuffs, pharmaceuticals, and medicinal products.
- Physiologically safe, and can be sterilised.
- Low friction, no adhesion.
- Wide temperature range from approx. – 200°C to + 260°C.
- Available for all diameters up to approx. 1,900 mm.
Application by Industry
For some industrial applications, PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene) is the go-to sealing solution. These include:
- Food Processing (FDA Seals), also compliant with European Regulations EC1935/2004 & EC2023/2006
- Hydraulic and Pneumatic Systems
- Engineering and Manufacturing Process
- Chemical Processing
- Pharmaceuticals and Medical Technology
Material
Standard material: Virgin, unfilled PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene)
PTFE, a partially crystalline thermoplastic, boasts exceptional chemical and thermal resistance. It stands out as the most chemically resistant plastic, suitable for a wide range of applications. While it exhibits slight limitations with molten alkaline metals, elementary fluorine, and certain halogen materials, PTFE remains unchanged when exposed to aging, light, and ozone.
With a water absorption rate of less than 0.01%, PTFE O Rings are ideal for applications where traditional elastomer O Rings fall short in chemical and thermal resilience. Commonly found in the chemical industry, food processing, pharmaceuticals, and medical technology, Teflon™ O Rings serve as static seals, securing connections like flanges and covers.
