Vast stocks and the shortest lead times in the industry makes M Barnwell Services the trusted supplier of Bonded Seals / Sealing Washers to thousands of engineers.
Commonly known as Dowty Seals, M Barnwell Services Bonded Seals and Washers are reliable and dependable in high pressure applications. Particularly suitable for sealing under the heads of bolts and threaded components, for Pipe Couplings and a wide range of connector applications where a perfect face-to-face contact is required for sealing gases, oils, and other fluids.
Our Bonded Seals (or Dowty Seals) consist of a rubber sealing element that is bonded to the inner wall of a metal washer. They are useful in applications where high pressures demand greater sealing capacity that can be obtained with Copper or traditional washers. Bonded seals are a preferred choice, especially in hydraulic systems, due to their durability and resilience in high-pressure applications.
The outer ring of a Bonded seal forms the base and is usually made made of a hard metal material, such as steel. The inner-rings are usually rubber and are typically made from elastomers including: NBR, Viton™, or EPDM, depending on the requirements. The elastomer provides a necessary versatility and ability to perform under high-pressure conditions, forming a tight seal under pressure.
Our Mild Steel / Stainless Steel range offers the highest burst pressure resistance offering tensile strength up to 540 MN/m2 (35 tons f/in2 UTS) minimum. For materials see our material properties page.
Bonded Seals are available in BSP and Metric ranges:
For specialist gas and medical applications we recommend using our range of BODOK Seals. These seals help to ensure an air-tight seal between the cylinder yoker or regulator of any medical device.
