Nuclear Cooling – Isolation Cap

"We are now confident in our application and feel a potential Health and Safety threat has been negated."

the challenge

A new nuclear power station project required the development of a subsea cooling pump system for a critical application classified as Class A in terms of risk and criticality. Operating in a harsh, abrasive subsea environment, the application demanded a seal with a deployment life of up to 5 years and a system designed to function reliably over an 85-year lifecycle.
The customer required a partner with the capability to jointly drive the development of both product and material solutions. This involved working within stringent quality systems and adhering to rigorous Health, Safety & Environmental (HS&E) regulations whilst maintaining full compliance with the nuclear sector’s standards as well as a proven track record in nuclear environments.

the solution

After a test phase period, where VulcOrings were supplied, a continuously-moulded O Ring was chosen and developed for the build phase, to further eliminate risk.

the result

With the in-house capabilities, AS9100 Rev D and HS&E standards, they were selected as the partner of choice for both the test and build phase with a project life spanning 85 years.
